As October 16 approaches — marking one year since Liam Payne’s death — his girlfriend Kate Cassidy is sharing a heartfelt reflection on their final moments together.
In a TikTok posted Sunday (Oct. 12), Cassidy revealed that Oct. 12, 2023, was the last day she saw the former One Direction singer alive. She described feeling “numb” as the anniversary nears and urged followers to cherish their loved ones: “You never know what tomorrow brings.”
Cassidy recalled saying a long, emotional goodbye before leaving Argentina, where Payne later died after falling from a hotel balcony. “He looked at me and said, ‘You’re acting like this is the last time you’re ever going to see me.’ And little did I know — it was,” she said tearfully.
She added that she feels grateful their last exchange was filled with love. Payne’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from family, fans, and his One Direction bandmates. Louis Tomlinson recently told Rolling Stone UK that he’s still processing the loss, calling it “impossibly difficult.”
Toxicology reports later confirmed Payne had high levels of alcohol and other substances in his system. Cassidy has spoken openly about his struggles with mental health and addiction, explaining on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast that she didn’t initially understand how deeply those challenges affected him.
