Liam Hemsworth Almost Wasn't Cast In 'The Last Song' With Miley Cyrus

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus tied the knot on December 23rd after 10 years together. The longtime couple famously met while co-starring in The Last Song back in 2009. During a recent interview with TODAY, though, Liam revealed their love story almost never came to be. After auditioning for the role of Will Blakelee in the film, Liam was not initially cast.

“That was the first job I got [in the U.S.], and it was literally right at the end of my three-month visa,” Liam recalled during the interview. “They cast another kid, and it didn’t work out with him.”

“My agent calls me like, whispering, like ‘You’ve got to go to Disney right now. It’s not working out with the other guy. You’ve got to go in and read with Miley again,’ ” he continued.

“I come in and everyone starts clapping like, ‘We should have gone with you first!’ ” Liam said with a smile.“It’s sort of weird how it all comes together, and then 10 years later I’m here, married."

Liam opened up about his recent wedding during his sit-down with Willie Geist, as well. "It was a really special day. It was pretty much just immediate family," he shared. "I feel very happy and real fortunate to be with such a good person. We've been through so much together over the last ten years so it felt like it was time."

As for how they protect their relationship from the Hollywood rumor mill and nosy paparazzi, he says they just try to keep things as normal as possible. "We just try to keep as much of it private as we can," he explained. "A lot of things we can't control, obviously. But I think not buying into the things that are maybe said about us."

All we can say is, thank goodness Liam nabbed that role in The Last Song all those years ago.
