Steve's Food News: Arby's & Old Spice Teamed Up - "Meat Sweat Defense Kit"

This might be the dumbest publicity stunt of the summer so far. But I guess it worked because here we are talking about it . . .

Arby's and Old Spice just teamed up for a limited-edition "Meat Sweat Defense Kit."  (???) They announced it yesterday, and it sold out immediately.

For $60, you got a $15 Arby's gift card . . . two cans of deodorant . . . a sweatband . . . gym towel . . . and one VERY stylish sweat suit covered in pictures of deli meat.

It comes in a box with the definition of "meat sweats" printed inside. If you're unfamiliar, it's, quote, "perspiration after eating massive quantities of meat."  (Here's a photo. Sorry to be a grammar nerd, but they said it's a verb when it's really a noun!)

If it actually sounds like something you'd want, a few people are already reselling the kits on eBay. They're currently going for around $250.

(Here's a video they posted about it.)

National Slurpee Day Returns To 7-Eleven

The birthday of the 7-Eleven’s Slurpee form is July 11th. Normally, the convenience store chain offers a free Slurpee to customers on that day. This year, however, the chain is celebrating its 95th birthday as well and is extending the celebration for 11 days beginning July 1st.

Speedy Rewards and 7Rewards members will find a coupon for a free small Slurpee in their account on that day that can be redeemed at any 7-Eleven, Speedway, or Stripes store through July 11th via the 7-Eleven or Speedway apps. Flavors include Cherry, Blue Raspberry, Pina Colada, Coca-Cola, or the new mystery flavor What The Fanta. Every free Slurpee will be served in an exclusive Slurpee Day Cup.

There will also be special dollar deals for items like muffins, coffee, taquitos, and hot dogs that are good from July 1st until July 11th. The list of Dollar Deals will show up on the 7Rewards or Speedy Rewards accounts. As an additional bonus, $1 small Slurpees continue all summer long at 7-Eleven, Speedway, Stripes, and 7NOW delivery.

A "fully-intact, vintage" Burger King was "found behind a wall" at Wilmington, Delaware's Concord Mall.

This sounds super mysterious . . . but apparently, it's mostly just sitting there vacant because malls have died out.

New Coke Flavor Inspired By McDonald’s

McDonald’s celebrity meals – which have featured Travis ScottSaweetie, and BTS – have been so successful that Coke has decided to try something like it. Coca-Cola Creations –the soda company’s innovation platform – is introducing a new flavor inspired by DJ Marshmello, an electronic music producer and masked DJ.

The flavor includes strawberry and watermelon tastes -- some of Marshmello’s favorites. “We created a vibey blend of my favorite flavors in this all-new mix,” he explained. “I think it tastes amazing and I hope fans love it too.” It will be available for purchase starting July 11th for a limited time and will also come in a zero-sugar version.

Coca-Cola Creations is pulling out all of the stops for the release. Look for it on July 9th on Marshmello’s Twitch channel. And beginning July 25th, customers that purchased the product can scan a QR code to go to Coca-Cola Creation’s site where “AI technology will transform their emotions while listening to Marshmello’s latest track into a personalized piece of digital art.”
