Sabrina Carpenter in Talks to Join 'Mamma Mia 3' Cast

Mamma Mia (2008)

Looks like the dancing queens aren’t done yet — Mamma Mia fans, get excited because a third movie could actually be on the way!

There’s been buzz about a possible Mamma Mia 3 for a while now, and producer Judy Craymer (aka the genius behind the stage show and both films) has dropped hints for years. Back in 2020, she mentioned the plan was always to make a trilogy and said Universal was definitely interested.

Fast-forward to May 2025, and Craymer just told Deadline that they do have a plan for the next movie and that “it will happen.” She even teased a possible new cast member — pop star Sabrina Carpenter — playing a goddess or someone related to Meryl Streep’s character. Nothing's filming just yet, but it sounds like the wheels are turning behind the scenes.

Universal hasn’t officially confirmed anything, but it’s easy to see why they’d want a third one. The first Mamma Mia movie made over $600 million when it came out in 2008, and the second film, Here We Go Again, brought in nearly $400 million in 2018. So yeah — fans + ABBA + movie stars = a pretty solid reason to keep going.

Meryl Streep’s return? Still TBD. But with the kind of friendships and fun this cast has had, it wouldn’t be surprising if she popped back in. Stay tuned — this ABBA-fueled ride might not be over just yet.
