After Beyoncé’s July 15 concert in Atlanta, chaos broke out at a nearby transit station when a stampede on an escalator injured 11 people — and believe it or not, it all started because someone screamed after spotting a bug.

According to MARTA communications director Stephany Fisher, the incident happened just after midnight. Eleven people reported injuries: one suffered a broken ankle, seven were taken to the hospital with cuts and scrapes, and others received medical help either on-site or after reaching their destinations. MARTA Police said a scream triggered the stampede, causing the escalator to speed up and then stop suddenly. The escalator has since been shut down and is under investigation.

Witnesses told police the scream was in reaction to an insect, and videos circulating on TikTok show a woman saying it was her 10-year-old relative who screamed after seeing the bug.

This scary moment followed the last of Beyoncé’s four shows in Atlanta, wrapping up the penultimate stop of her summer-long Cowboy Carter tour. Fans have shared videos and stories on social media — one TikTok user described people piling on top of each other on the escalator while others urged everyone to move back. Some posted photos of their injuries, including a bloody ankle.

The final leg of Beyoncé’s tour takes her to Las Vegas, where she’ll perform on July 25 and 26 at Allegiant Stadium.
