Two people died following a violent home intrusion and stabbing on North Valley Pike in Rockingham County on Sunday night (August 3).

At 11:58 p.m., deputies responded to a call about an armed intruder at a residence in the 13000 block of North Valley Pike. Upon arrival, officers found Michael Hatcher, 65, outside the home with visible injuries. Inside the driveway, they discovered the body of Kevin Moses Walker, 41, from Pikesville, Maryland. Inside the home, deputies located Holly Hatcher, 62, Michael’s wife, who had also been fatally stabbed.

Investigators from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police determined that the intruder entered the house armed with a large knife and stabbed Holly Hatcher, causing her death. The intruder then attacked Michael Hatcher, who managed to retrieve a handgun from his vehicle. Michael fired a single shot during the altercation outside, fatally wounding the intruder.

Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson stated that the investigation remains ongoing, with both agencies working to uncover all facts surrounding the tragic event. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no further details will be released. After consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney, no charges will be filed since the offender is deceased.
