Pop singer Chappell Roan has drawn backlash from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after making an anti-ICE statement during a recent concert in Los Angeles.
While performing the first of two shows at Brookside at the Rose Bowl on Friday (Oct. 10), Roan paused her set to express gratitude for her adopted hometown. Reflecting on nearly a decade in L.A., the Missouri native said she was inspired by the cityâs resilience and community response to recent wildfires, adding that she felt âlucky to live hereâ and had a âduty to give back.â
Her remarks took a political turn when she concluded with, âFâk ICE forever,â a comment she repeated as the audience joined in. The statement quickly went viral, prompting a response from DHS officials.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, told TMZ, ââPink Pony Clubâ is good. Pedophiles are bad. Thatâs who weâre getting off our streets. Get a grip.â
Roanâs comment comes amid heightened tensions surrounding U.S. immigration enforcement. President Donald Trumphas made large-scale deportations a priority in his second term, and officials in several states, including Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, have condemned recent âmilitary-styleâ ICE raids targeting immigrant communities.
