Celebrate Halloween Downtown at Harrisonburg’s Skeleton Festival

Skeleton Festival Returns to Downtown Harrisonburg for a Spooktacular Celebration

Halloween is creeping into the Friendly City! The Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR) will kick off spooky season with the annual Skeleton Festival on Saturday, October 25, from 1–5 p.m. in Downtown Harrisonburg — a free, family-friendly event filled with fall fun, community spirit, and festive activities for all ages.

The day begins with trick-or-treating at 40+ downtown businesses starting at 1 p.m., while families seeking a calmer experience can enjoy a Low-Sensory Trick-or-Treat Hour inside The Shops at Agora from 12–1 p.m. Attendees can also take part in the popular Sip & Stroll at nearly 20 local establishments, explore pop-up vendors, and enter costume contests — including a pet parade on Court Square at 4 p.m.

“This event is all about connection,” said Andrea L. Dono, HDR’s executive director. “It brings people downtown to make lasting memories while showcasing what our local businesses have to offer.”

Costume contest registration will be open on the south side of Court Square from 1–3:45 p.m., and all pet parade participants will receive special treats. Judges will award prizes in six categories: Pre-K, Elementary, Middle/High School, Adults 18+, Adults 55+, and Duo/Group.

Other activities around downtown include:

🎃 Sip & Stroll with themed drinks at local bars and cafes

🎃 Community Ofrenda by Cambiando Vidas in the Jimmy Madison’s lot

🎃 Photo booth, artmobile, and ghost tours on Court Square
