Ed Sheeran says becoming a father changed far more than his daily routine — it reshaped how he takes care of his body.
In a new cover story for Men’s Health published Thursday, the singer revealed he’s lost about 30 pounds and gained muscle in recent years, a transformation he credits largely to parenthood with wife Cherry Seaborn.
“The main reason was becoming a dad,” Sheeran said. He recalled an early wake-up call shortly after his daughter Lyra was born in 2020. “I had a bottle of wine with a friend, went to bed, and Lyra woke up 20 minutes later. I remember thinking, ‘I probably shouldn’t drink if I’m going to feel this dreadful.’”
That moment, he said, pushed him to rethink his habits. “I wanted to be able to do the night stuff,” Sheeran explained. “It all came together — wanting to be a responsible dad, and wanting to feel and look good.”
Since then, Sheeran has focused on consistency rather than extremes. Even while touring, he prioritizes regular workouts and has cut back significantly on alcohol. His routine includes weight training, reformer Pilates, and running to build strength and endurance.
The lifestyle shift hasn’t been without hesitation. Sheeran admitted he worried longtime fans might not recognize the healthier version of him. “I did think, ‘Is it weird me being super in shape on a Men’s Health cover?’” he said.
Still, he believes the change is relatable — especially for parents. “I think it’s normal for people to want to be healthier and more structured once they have kids,” Sheeran said. “I’m still the same person underneath it all. But in your 30s, as a parent, you have to make better decisions.”
Sheeran and Seaborn share two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, born in 2020 and 2022.
