Long before their relationship became public, A$AP Rocky says his mother already saw what he couldn’t. In a new clip from an upcoming episode of The New York Times’ Popcast, Rocky revealed that his mom, Renee, repeatedly encouraged him to pursue Rihanna years before they ever became a couple.
At the time, Rocky didn’t see it. He recalled telling his mother, “That girl don’t even want me like that… we cool, Mom. That’s just my friend.” But Renee wasn’t buying it, insisting instead that Rihanna was “real” — advice that ultimately proved spot-on. Looking back, Rocky summed it up simply: “Mothers know best.”
Rocky also shared how being with Rihanna brought new clarity to his life, explaining that their relationship helped him reassess the people around him. “Being with my girl took a blindfold off,” he said, noting that Rihanna has a strong instinct for recognizing who genuinely belongs in his inner circle.
The two grew closer during the pandemic and have since built a family together. They are now parents to sons RZA and Riot Rose, along with a daughter, Rocki, born last fall. Rihanna has even hinted that another baby could be on the horizon, recently joking online, “So I’m not crazy then?” when fans speculated about baby No. 4.
Meanwhile, Rocky is preparing for the release of his long-awaited album Don’t Be Dumb, due out Friday (Jan. 16), marking a major moment in his musical comeback.
