Citizens Continue to Call for DeFlocking Harrisonburg

The debate over Flock license plate reader cameras continues in Harrisonburg as those who disagree with the implementation of the technology gathered Monday evening to voice concerns about privacy and push for the cameras' removal.

The event was aimed at raising public awareness and building support for the campaign against the camera system. The organizers have collected thousands of petition signatures and sent thousands of emails to city leaders urging them to reconsider the city's use of the technology.

The renewed push follows ongoing community concerns surrounding surveillance technology in Harrisonburg. There has been previous reporting on the criticism of the Flock cameras as this is a heavy and persistent issue in the community. Citizens have many hesitations including worries about privacy, data collection, and the potential misuse of information gathered through the system.

Residents have continued to voice their concerns, with some contacting Harrisonburg City Council members and calling on the city to terminate its contracts with the companies that provide and operate the cameras.
