Harrisonburg Fire Marshal's Remind Citizens of Illegal Firework Usage

The Harrisonburg Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding residents that all fireworks, including sparklers, are illegal within city limits ahead of any upcoming Fourth of July celebrations.

Fire officials say the ban is in place to prevent fires and injuries. While sparklers may seem harmless, they can reach extremely high temperatures and cause serious burns.

Although some fireworks can be legally purchased elsewhere in Virginia, they cannot be possessed, sold, or used in Harrisonburg. This includes sparklers, aerial fireworks, and any fireworks that explode.

There will also be additional fire marshals on duty during the holiday weekend to respond to complaints about illegal fireworks. Fireworks will be confiscated, and violators could face fines.

Residents are encouraged to attend the city's public Fourth of July fireworks display instead of setting off fireworks at home.
