As online sales soar, Chipotle has announced its first digital-only restaurant. What does that mean for us? Rather than have an actual space for dining, the new concept will be for pick-up and delivery only.
It will allow Chipotle to enter more urban areas that would not support a full-sized restaurant. As Curt Garner, Chipotle’s chief technology officer, points out, “With digital sales tripling year over year last quarter, consumers are demanding more digital access than ever before.”
The first restaurant is located just outside the gates of the U.S. Military Academy in Highland Falls, New York and opens this Saturday. Customers must order in advance at Chipotle.com, the Chipotle app or third-party delivery partners.
