Data Shows Will Smith's Reputation Severely Damaged By Oscar Slap

According to Variety, the aftershocks of “The Slap Heard ‘Round The World” are definitely having their effect on Will Smith.

Q Scores, the longtime industry standard for quantifying celebrities’ star power and appeal, indicates Smith’s numbers cratered months after the March 27 Academy Awards ceremony, when the actor smacked presenter Chris Rock on live TV. Previous to that, Smith consistently ranked in the Top Ten most positively rated actors, ranking him with such icons as Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. But between Q Scores’ January survey, conducted before the Oscars, and its July polling (the first following the incident), Smith’s positive Q Score fell from a peak of 39 to 24, which is characterized as “a very significant and precipitous decline.” (A positive Q Score of 24 means 24 percent of those surveyed who know of Smith count him as one of their favorite personalities.) At the same time, Will’s negative rating (those surveyed whose opinion of him was “fair” or “poor”) more than doubled, from less than 10 to 26. The average negative Q Score is about 16 or 17.

Will wasn’t the only Smith to take a hit: Jada Pinkett Smith, the actor’s wife, also saw a swift decline. Her positive score, already low at 13, fell to 6, and her negative score jumped from 29 to 44.

As for Chris Rock - his Q score remained unchanged.

Kanye Defends Selling Clothing Line Out of Trash Bags

Kanye West is not going to apologize for how his latest “Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga” line is displayed in Gap stores.

“Look, man. I’m an innovator. And I’m not here to sit up here and apologize about my ideas,” West told Fox News. “That’s exactly what the media tries to do. Make us apologize for any idea that doesn’t fall under exactly the way they want us to think.”

Ye has been under fire lately for marketing his line out of construction bags - a nicer way of saying “heavy-duty trash bags." The Gap has carried his line for about a month, and not only does it look just like customers are rummaging in garbage bags to retrieve the clothing, but an Instagram post (since deleted) by Kanye claimed the line was inspired by “the homeless” and “the children.”

While some have suggested the unconventional display method might be insensitive to the homeless, West insists the goal is to make shopping easier and more egalitarian.
